Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a precise and light skin stretching technique used to improve drainage of lymphatic fluid in the body. The lymphatic system relies on muscular movement and healthy fluid balance within the tissues to tackle infection, balance fluid in the blood system and to take fatty acids around the body. When a patient receives a treatment they will receive a full consultation and the appropriate areas will be treated.
The therapist uses a precise skin stretching technique which is very subtle and aids a gentle flow of this fluid within the vessels which are close to the skin. Our system is designed to receive fluid from al of the bodies that pass through nodes which act as filters for disease, debris and excess tissue fluid. When the flow and drainage are working well our system remains healthy and fluid is dealt with efficiently.
MLD has the following physical effects:
· Analgesic effect – the light technique soothes the nervous system and helps relieve pain and improve mobility.
· Reduces swelling by encouraging the lymphatic vessels to ‘suck up’ or drain the fluid within the tissues.
· Helps to improve the immunity by encouraging a faster more efficient lymph flow which will more effectively deal with infection.
